PAC Election
We are delighted to announce that the channel elected Leanne Kenny (MarkMonitor), Michele Neylon (Blacknight) and Will Harrison (Hosting Ireland) as their PAC Registrar representatives. They will join Luc Suefer who was elected in November 2023 as the 4th PAC Registrar representative. We are sure they will be valuable (re)additions to the Committee membership, and we look forward to working with the representatives over the coming term.
NIS2
Ireland, along with 22 other Member States, missed the deadline to transpose NIS2 into national law by 17 October 2024. To date, there is no word on when we can expect transposition. We are continuing to collaborate with partners, especially government officials in the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, and other European ccTLDs, to advocate for new legislation that is harmonised and minimises the regulatory burden on Registrars. We are currently waiting for more information on how NIS2 will be transposed in Ireland. If you have any queries regarding NIS2 requirements, please do not hesitate to contact dmcdermott@weare.ie.
Public Consultation on the .ie ccTLD
The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communication (DECC) launched a public consultation on a proposed management framework for the .ie ccTLD. The consultation can be found at this link and ended at 5:30 PM on Friday, 14 February 2025. This consultation aims to establish Terms of Endorsement – an agreement between the ccTLD manager and the government of Ireland, that will set out core principles around the management of the .ie Registry. Insights and expertise from stakeholders are invaluable in shaping the future of the .ie domain namespace. The consultation sought views on:
- Roles and Responsibilities of the .ie ccTLD Manager;
- Governance and Management of the .ie ccTLD;
- Stakeholder Engagement; and,
- Future risks to the security and stability of ie.
