Karen Sweeney

Interim Head of Communications, Western Development Commission

Karen Sweeney is the Interim Head of Communications at the Western Development Commission. She joined the organisation in 2016 and has been working in the Communications department for four years. She has recently been appointed Interim Head of Communications where she leads out on highlighting and raising awareness of the work of WDC including regional promotion for the West of Ireland and supporting communications on the national Connected Hubs project.

Karen has over 12 years of experience in local/regional development and communications. She has extensive experience in corporate communications, media relations, public relations, internal communications, brand and digital content management.  She holds a Master in Community Development from National University of Galway.
